Sentiment Analysis on Publicly-Posted SNS Contents

Abstract(in English) With the rapid development of Social Network Services (SNSs), people have begun to express their opinions on Facebook and other similar services. Meanwhile, sentiment analysis on SNS posts becomes a quick and effective way of gauging users' opinions for social studies. In this paper, we select Facebook users from different groups and collect public posts from Facebook users’ timelines. Then we apply a lexicon-based sentiment analysis to their public posts, where sentiment consists of polarity score and subjectivity score. Through our observations, we identify five typical types, which we term Sociable, Sharer, Monologuer, Critic and Average, in sentiment score distributions of individual users. We show that these five types of sentiment distributions are related to particular posting behaviors. We compare several clustering methods for predicting the five user types from sentiment distributions of users’ public posts, and evaluate the methods by comparing F1-score between their clustering results and human-judged results.
