Low Load Flow Quality Measurement for Data Center Network

Abstract(in English) It is important for data center operators to monitor their network and ensuring that the network work fine. However, it is difficult to find flows suffered by degraded components with statistical monitoring. Measurement approaches which transmit measurement packets among servers to detect degraded components face high measurement load issue. In this paper, we propose a flow quality measurement method which detects a flow which cause a TCP retransmission at the source host and transmit measurement packets on the same route with the flow. Our proposed method can measure the quality with low load because the source host transmits packets only when it detects a TCP retransmission. Our experimental evaluation reveals that our proposed method measures the flow quality with high accuracy with fewer number of measurement packets.
