Abstract(in English) | Exponentially increasing internet traffic requires optimal exploitation of spectral resource of optical network. Therefore, coded modulation is attracting attention as a strong candidate for utilization of spectral resource by switching modulation format in adaptation to transmission condition. In this paper, we apply multiple-redundancy four-dimensional Trellis coded modulation scheme to PM-16QAM, which enables 7, 6, 5bits/symbol modulation. Transmission experiment shows that modulation formats with higher-redundancy achieve longer reach, which enables adaptive modulation. Moreover, nonlinear compensation improve the reach of TCM format significantly. Finally, comparing 4D-TCM64-12QAM with PM-8QAM, we directly show that coding gain offers longer reach than conventional PM formats on the same spectral efficiency. |
