Compensation of modulation distortion in microwave Radio-over-Fiber systems by means of chromatic dispersion

Abstract(in English) In radio over fiber systems, it is desirable to increase the depth of optical modulation in favor of large signal to noise ratio. The authors have experimentally demonstrated that the single carrier 16QAM signal on the optical carrier compressed by the nonlinearity of the optical modulator is recovered by chromatic dispersion. In this paper, we report the results of our experiments on the signal compensation effect of the OFDM signal by evaluating bit error rate performance. Similar to the case of the single carrier, the bit error rate cyclically varied with the accumulated dispersion; this phenomenon is caused by cyclic variation of signal points distribution. The improvement of the penalty by dispersion is estimated up to 2dB under the current experimental condition.
