Image Transmission using Analog Single-Carrier with Frequency-Domain Equalization

Abstract(in English) High-speed and high-quality image transmission in mobile communications requires very large transmission bandwidth. In digital signal transmission, high-efficient image compression technique is commonly used for reducing the amount of transmit data; however, its processing delay is the main drawback. To achieve a spectrum-efficient high-quality image transmission, analog single-carrier transmission with frequency-domain equalization (analog SC-FDE) is a promising technique since it achieves good transmission quality by employing broadband frequency mapping and one-tap FDE. To date, Analog SC-FDE was extensively studied considering cosine wave and voice transmission, but image transmission was not considered yet. It should be noted that there is a unique property of image signal containing spectrum peak, which causes a severe performance degradation when image signal is transmitted through a frequency-selective fading channel. In this paper, we extend the analog SC-FDE to image transmission and evaluate the transmission quality in terms of normalized mean-square error (NMSE) and peak signal-to-noise power ratio (PSNR). The effect of signal containing spectrum peak in image transmission using analog SC-FDE is discussed. We also show that a simple random interleaver can be used for suppressing the problem occurred by the signals containing spectrum peak.
