Wideband and athermal operations of silicon waveguide optical isolator

Abstract(in English) Preventing backward reflections by using an optical isolator is important for optical transceivers based on silicon photonics. We have developed waveguide type optical isolators fabricated by surface activated direct bonding technique, which realizes incorporation of magneto-optical garnet into silicon photonic circuits. Wideband and athermal operations for the backward direction are possible by proper designs of Mach-Zehnder interferometer of the optical isolator. In this report, we present the design, temperature-dependence analysis of optical properties of a magneto-optical material, device fabrication, and the demonstrations.
