Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In “Japan’s Robot Strategy” announced by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan, promotion of marketing and research/development in robotics is targeted to make robots be able to play various roles for human in the fields of manufacturing, services, nursing care/medicine, infrastructure/disaster response/construction, and agriculture, forestry and fisheries/food industry. In principle, moving objects such as robots can be controlled by only means of wireless technology. Therefore, with the increasing needs for controlling robots, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) of Japan is planning to allocate new channels allowed only for the control of robots in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands. For accurate control of moving objects and robots, accurate measurement and high transmission reliability such as low delay and low error are strongly required. Therefore, wireless communication technology will play a more essential role in the control of moving objects and robots in the fields deeply related to human lives. In this invited speech, I start by introducing the recent trends on the research and development of robotics, IOT (Internet Of Things) and CPS (Cyber Physical Systems), and discuss the future roles of wireless communication technology in measurement and control of moving objects and robots.
