| Abstract(in English) | We proposed a method estimating an appropriate meaning of abbreviations in English printed on papers, and implemented it on a mobile device. We utilized camera and OCR functions on the device. As meaning candidates of an abbreviation, the system retrieves a web page on the abbreviation and extracts the words and its description of the abbreviation. The system compares the words of description of candidates with ones of text data from OCR for captured a document image, and sums up the number of corresponding words for each candidate. Meaning candidates of the abbreviation are displayed with ranked by the sums. We collected 100 text data from books or articles including “IMF” which has 12 kinds of meaning, as a sample of an abbreviation. We confirmed 60 text data are estimated the correct meaning ranked 1st by the proposed inferring meaning process, and 58 text data are estimated the correct meaning for these 60 data by using a mobile device implemented on all processes. |
