[Invited Lecture] Radio Access Technologies and Experimental Trials for 5G

Abstract(in English) In order to realize various kinds of mobile services and applications, the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system has attracted much attention to improve both system capacity and data rates dramatically. In R&D activities starting from 2015 for “The research and development project for realization of 5G mobile communication system” commissioned by The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan, various radio access technologies (RATs) to realize 5G has been also investigated. In this report, we focus on ultra-high-density distributed antenna technology for low SHF bands and Massive MIMO technology for low SHF and high SHF bands as 5G RATs and introduce an outline, simulation results, and experiment results by using experimental equipment in a cross-sectoral manner. In addition, knowledge and technical issues are summarized according to the results of the study.
