Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Software-defined networking, particularly OpenFlow, has enabled traffic engineering (TE) using arbi- trary traffic group as a granularity of control. We have developed a novel TE scheme that dynamically generates traffic groups, named macroflows, by analyzing monitored flow information in real-time, and proactively configure routing paths computed in accordance with their characteristics. In this paper, to demonstrate the feasibility of our macroflow-based TE scheme, we implement a proof-of-concept (PoC) network making use of open-source software and conduct a performance experiment. We also conduct a demonstration experiment in the wide-area SDN testbed RISE on JGN–X to clarify the feasibility of our TE in realistic network and evaluate the load of control plane when our TE is conducted. Our evaluation shows that the configuration load of an edge function that adds path labels to packets is much heavier than it of a core function that forwards packets according to path label. This result reveals that the network topology affects the load of the control plane. Finally, based on the knowledge obtained through implementing a PoC and conducting a testbed experiment, we discuss the challenges in adopting TE scheme into real network environment. |
