Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is unclear about the relation between the location to respond and the side of the responding hands/foot. The differences between compatible and the incompatible mappings for these two-dimensional responses might be shown as the deficit in the task. The purpose of this study was to examine this R-R mapping effect in elderly adults. The stimuli consisted of colors (red/green) and shapes (◯/△) was presented. The colors of the stimuli corresponded to the position (left/right) of the switch to press. The shapes of the stimuli corresponded to the hand/foot which was used to press the switch (left/right hand/foot). The behavioral data and brain activities with a near-infrared spectoroscotopy (NIRS) were analyzed. The elderly showed the R-R mapping effect for reaction times. NIRS scores showed that greater brain activities were observed in dorsolateral area when the incompatible combination of the two-dimensional responses was required, suggesting that this area was related to the response coding and R-R mapping effect was robust for the relation between the location to respond and the side of the responding hand/foot.
