Effect of trabecular bone density on two wave phenonmenon

Abstract(in English) In the cancellous bone, the longitudinal wave separates into fast and slow waves. The fast wave mainly propagates along trabeculae and the slow wave mainly propagates in the bone marrow. We can estimate cancellous bone density and elasticity from the characteristics of these waves. In this study, we experimentally studied the effect of trabecular bone volume fraction on two wave phenomenon. As decreasing the fraction, the amplitudes of fast waves became smaller. This study showed that decrease of bone density (bone fraction) can be evaluated by measuring the fast wave amplitude.
