A Frequency Compensation Method for Visible Light Communications using High Power LEDs

Abstract(in English) The light emitting diodes (LEDs) which will be increasingly used in lightning, will also be used in visible light communications (VLC). The transmission speed using high power LEDs is restricted by the frequency characteristics which has power degradation in high frequency band. Some frequency compensation methods were proposed such as pre-equalization method, which equalizes the signal before transmission. The pre-equalization method makes frequency characteristics flat, but also it degrades total power when degradation slope is steep in high frequency band. We propose a novel frequency compensation method that improve average bit error rate (BER) with considering the tradeoff between the frequency flatness and the power degradation. We also show the effects of proposed method with experimental and calculated results.
