Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | NFV is a concept for network virtualization and it accelerates replacing current network appliances with virtualization products. For practical commercial network systems, there are various kinds of requirements such as performance or security or so for each of systems. Recent virtualization technologies enable us to build these systems with combination of modules on virtual machines (VMs) to meet such requirements. However, it unable to satisfy performance for network appliances, such as firewall or load balancer which require high performance, because of bottlenecks between VMs. To resolve the problem, Inter-VM Communication (IVC) of hardware or software approach has been studied. Some of them are succeeded to achieve wire-late speed, but each of them have their disadvantage of flexibility. In this report, we propose Virtual Patch Panel (VPP) which is a new approach based on Intel DPDK to satisfy both of requirements of performance and flexibility. VPP behaviors like a legacy patch panel with virtualization technology to connect VMs. VPP is the fruits of collaboration of NTT and Intel. We also report the result of performance test of VPP comparing with other IVC technologies. |
