On Packet Loss Rate of Coded Frameless ALOHA for Massive Random Access

Abstract(in English) Frameless ALOHA is a random access scheme, where users transmit their packets with the given transmission probability and a base station tries to retrieve the transmitted packets using successive interference cancellation (SIC). Due to the probabilistic transmission, some packets may never be transmitted during the frame, leading to the error floor of the packet loss rate (PLR). In this paper, coded frameless ALOHA is proposed, where each user utilizes erasure correcting codes so that undecoded packets can be decoded from other recovered packets upon SIC. We derive the theoretical PLR performance of the proposed system by theoretically analyzing the behavior of SIC and decoder and show that the error floor of the PLR can be eliminated. Moreover, it is revealed that our proposed scheme can mitigate the variance of throughput than the original frameless ALOHA.
