Efficiency Enhancement of Beam-switching Antenna Optimizing Beam Shape of Taper Structure in Rotman-lens Phase Shifter

Abstract(in English) Multiple-beam antennas can cover wide angle with high gain, therefore, are attractive for high-speed wireless mobile communications and automotive radar systems in the millimeter-wave band. Rotman-lens phase shifter is a feeding circuit for array antennas and different beam-directions can be achieved by different phase inclination to the output ports assigned to each input port. Butler matrix and Blass circuit have similar functions, however, Rotman-lens operates broad frequency band width due to the lens principle. On the other hand, Rotman-lens suffers loss consumed into the dummy ports and reduction of aperture efficiency due to deviation from the uniform output illumination. In this work, angle and width at the connection of all input taper structures to the Rotman lens are adjusted to fit the radiation pattern in the parallel plate transmission line to the whole width of output ports. The effect of this structure is confirmed by simulation in this paper.
