A Theoretical Study on the X-ray CT using Scattered Radiation

Abstract(in English) In X-ray computed tomography (CT), scattered X-rays are generally removed by a grid located in front of the detector. However, as objects cause the scattered X-rays, information about the objects can be extracted from them. Therefore, using extracted information from the scattered X-rays, the dose to the patient can be reduced. To confirm this assumption, in the our previous report, we simplified the reconstruction problem to estimate only one value of the attenuation coefficient and examined a numerical experiment. In this study, we theoretically clarified the principle that the use of a dedicated detector for measuring the scattered X-ray improves the accuracy of the estimated attenuation coefficient according to a simplified model. Furthermore, we confirmed this theoretical insight by conducting a Monte Carlo simulation.
