Possible role of angiogenesis in transient post-ischemic hyperperfusion in rats

Abstract(in English) Post-ischemic hyperperfusion was observed a few days after transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) . We assume the hyperperfusion was caused by angiogenesis occurred after tMCAO. To evaluate the hypothesis, we administrated angiogenesis inhibitor SU5416 and evaluated cerebral blood flow in 48 hours after MCAO with continuous arterial spin labeling in MRI. Post-ischmeic hyperperfusion in caudate nucleus was statistically reduced in SU5416 administration compared to control group. Dilated arteries and vessel endothelial cell proliferation in caudate nucleus was inhibited in pathological preparation. The post-ischemic hyperperfusion might be related to the angiogenesis.
