Abstract(in English) | The present work examines directional applications of BLE beacons, and an indoor BLE beacon-based guidance system that holds the promise of truly accurate geographical positioning. At first, RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) is measured in smartphones, and the distance between the beacon and smartphone is estimated, based on its strength. Regarding signal strength, the degree of positioning error depends on the circumstances resulting from microwave reflection, or scattering. To eliminate this interference, we covered the BLE beacon with micro wave-absorbing and reflecting materials (carbon sponge and aluminum foil), to form a directional radio transmission pattern. In our experiments, we measured RSSI of the beacon from 8 distinct directions, both in a radio anechoic chamber and the laboratory. We determined that the Front-back ratio measured a maximum 18.6dB, when the beacon was covered by the aluminum foil. Moreover, we tested the speech-guidance function using two beacons. As a result, it was confirmed that beacons were easily distinguishable from one another, when they were positioned on corridor walls at 3m. intervals. |
