Abstract(in English) We examined functional architecture for orientation and spatial frequency at single cellular level in macaque visual cortical areas V1 and V4. We performed in vivo two-photon calcium imaging in layer 2/3 of V1 and V4, and recorded fluorescence signals of individual neurons during presentation of natural movies. For each neuron, we made an encoding model that simulates its fluorescence responses to the movies. We then fed various drifting gratings as inputs into the model to estimate orientation and spatial frequency tunings. In V1, consistent with previous studies, nearby neurons shared both preferred orientation and spatial frequency. In V4 nearby neurons shared preferred orientation but not preferred spatial frequency. We found systematic maps for representing orientation in both V1 and V4.
