Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Visually impaired people have various difficulties in outdoor walking. In an interview conducted to two visually impaired persons, we found the following requests: acquisition of information about a route, finding the current location on the route, knowing the color of the traffic light for pedestrians and localizing the entrance of the destination. We propose a system to help visually impaired people walk outside by oneself. The system implemented as an Android application has four functions needed when walking outside. The system is composed of route guidance function, compass function, walk light recognition function and entrance recognition function. As an experiment result, the accuracy rate of walk light recognition is 80%, and the accuracy of entrance recognition are 71% of precision rate and 74% of recall rate.
