Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, streaming video delivery services adopt pacing techniques. Pacing is a dynamic playout buffer control method to reduce unplayed and wasted buffered data when users canceled playing video. However, the conventional pacing methods incur average bitrate degradation depending on the timing of filling buffer. This is because they fill the buffer without taking into account the bitrate of each video data chunk. In this paper, we propose a novel video pacing method that utilizes past network throughput information. Proposed method fills minimum amount of buffer that can avoid rebuffering when the network throughput is poor and the corresponding bitrate is low. It fills maximum amount of buffer when the network throughput is good and the corresponding bitrate is high. We evaluate this method under both the artificial network environment and the real LTE network environment. The experimental results show that the proposed method can increase average bitrate of video by 44% compared with the conventional methods while keeping the increase of average buffer length 9%.
