Uncalibrated Photometric Stereo Using a Trained Image Formation Model

Abstract(in English) In this paper we present a new method solving the uncalibrated photometric stereo (PS) problem for non-Lambertian surfaces. We propose a model that represents various isotropic reflectance functions by using the principal components of items in a dataset, and formulate the uncalibrated PS as a regression problem. We then solve it by using some techniques that lead to convergence and highly accurate reconstruction. We also expand our method for other applications, namely (1) calibrated PS and (2) uncaribrated PS with spatially varying reflectance. Our experimental results show that our method significantly outperformed previous methods.
