| Abstract(in English) | We developed a system for understanding environmental sounds (ES) and their contexts for deaf and hard of hearing children. Contexts of ES are the situations and the actions to be taken at the time of the sound generated. Our system was developed as an Android application. The system aims at not only understanding ES but also their contexts which was not included in the previous similar systems. It makes children with hearing impairment possible to learn ES with enjoyment even by themselves with a tablet when teachers could not spend much time of teaching ES in the education. We have examined the usability, the effectiveness, and issues of the system with hearing impaired children. We describe the overview of the system, the experiment, its results, and the discussion. |
