Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we investigate the feasibility of using microwave power transmission (MPT) for batteryless operation of a wireless local area network (WLAN) station on the assumption that MPT is operated in the same frequency band as that for WLAN. In this situation, even when the station employs a carrier sense mechanism, disassociation from the access point (AP) and throughput degradation could occur due to interference. To solve these problems, we propose time division and rate adaptation schemes. In the time division scheme, both microwave power and data transmissions are not performed simultaneously. In the scheme, an energy source transmits microwave power to a WLAN station except when the station transmits data or receives beacon messages. Using a time division system based on the proposed scheme, we confirm the expected performance of the system. The rate adaptation scheme mitigates physical (PHY) layer data rate reduction and improves throughput. A WLAN station based on the proposed scheme assesses whether exposure to microwave radiation for MPT using rectenna output. Then, using historical data corresponding to the assessment results, the station selects a PHY data rate. We evaluate the throughput performance of the proposed scheme. The results confirm that the proposed scheme successfully mitigates the PHY data rate reduction and thus improves throughput.
