Abstract(in English) | An auto-multiscopic 3-dimensional display which consists of a backlight and a few light attenuating layers is considered. Each layer consists of pixels whose transmittance can be controlled individually. Depending on the observing direction, we can see different images due to the different combinations of overlapping pixels. The transmittance patterns are optimized with respect to expected observations for different viewing directions, which are given as a set of multi-view images. In this study, we developed a prototype of this 3D display using off-the-shelf LCD panels and a backlight, and evaluated the quality of displayed images. We speeded up the heavy optimization for the transmittance patterns by adapting a GPU-based implementation. Finally, we achieved a display system that can render and display 3D images in real-time. |
