Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Q&A sites such as Stack Overflow contain huge amount of data for programming technologies. It is effective for many developers to use the data when they debug a program. However, it depends on the developers' experience whether or not the searched information is useful for them. To clarify this hypothesis, we conducted an empirical study. We obtained the following findings: 1) high score posts are useful for beginners and low score posts tend to contain the precious information for advanced developers; 2) most developers tend to search information by giving a raw code snippet when they want to debug a buggy program; and 3) most novice programmers tend to input only an API name into a search engine when they encounter an unknown API usage, while advanced developers tend to specify the combination of appropriate words.
