Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Itron, Inc. has developed Itron RIVA platform, with the aim to meet the advanced future needs of smart grid, in addition to solving various challenges of today’s smart meter and smart grid network solutions. Itron RIVA consists of Adaptive Communications Technology (ACT) which combines RF mesh and PLC mesh, enabling dynamic and continuous selection of the optimal communications path, the edge computing platform and the distributed application environment. This enables not only assured secure connectivity at highest available speed for smart meters / smart grid communications at low cost, but also advanced data analytics applications that require near real-time monitoring and decision making, which would be impossible with the conventional back-office-only approach.. Based on that achievement, Itron is working to utilize Itron RIVA as a communication & computing platform that meets high requirements of IoT applications. Itron is actively collaborating with application developers from various sectors to develop versatile IoT Applications that run on Itron RIVA platform, by openly providing RIVA development board kits.
