Investigation of mechanism of crystalline-amorphous periodic structure formation in GeTe by pulsed laser irradiation

Abstract(in English) When a GeTe film, one of phase change materials used for rewritable optical discs, has changed from crystalline to amorphous phase by irradiation of laser pulses, a crystalline-amorphous periodic structure formed. So we firstly performed amorphization experiments under varied conditions of laser pulses and samples. As a result, many features of the crystalline-amorphous periodic structure were clarified. In addition, we made a hypothesis about the formation mechanism of this crystalline-amorphous periodic structure based on its pulse number dependence and confirmed the adequacy of the hypothesis by FDTD simulation applying same models as experiments.
