Transmission Performance of OFDM Downlink Using Distributed Antenna STBC Transmit Diversity

Abstract(in English) To realize the fifth generation (5G) mobile communications systems, small-cell structured network using distributed antennas has been attracting a much attention. By using one or more distributed antennas close to a user equipment (UE) as transmit diversity branches, a good transmission quality can be achieved over the entire macro-cell. Furthermore, an introductions of cyclic delay transmission (CDT) and transmit FDE to STBC transmit diversity can further improve the transmission performance. Co-channel interference (CCI) from adjacent macro-cells cannot be ignored. However, to our best knowledge, the impact of CCI on downlink transmission using STBC transmit diversity has not been sufficiently discussed yet. In this paper, we evaluate by computer simulation the achievable capacity of OFDM downlink using STBC transmit diversity in small-cell networks and we show that STBC transmit diversity with transmit FDE achieves higher capacity than with CDT and the STBC diversity with receive FDE. Also shown is that by using more number of distributed antennas in STBC transmit diversity with transmit FDE, the downlink capacity can be improved more.
