Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Speech signal modification to increase intelligibility in noisy environments may bring about annoyance in a quieter environment. Human speech production in noise, or the Lombard effect is known to improve intelligibility in noise. The speech might annoying in a quiet environment, however, the effect is not shown in a quiet environment. This suggests that humans might modify their voices depending on the environment considering annoyance and intelligibility. In order to investigate whether mimicking the human speech meets demands for reducing annoyance and intelligibility, this paper examined influence of noise level during listening on speech annoyance and intelligibility. The results showed that although speech produced in noisy environments were more intelligible than ones produced in a quiet environment, they were annoying in a quiet environment. This supports that mimicking human speech production would meet the demand for reducing annoyance and intelligibility.
