Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Research on the 5G mobile networks has become active. The main features of the 5G are reported to be use of small cells and millimeter wave. Use of small cells in 5G mobile networks necessitates innovation even for local networks accessing to the Internet such as WiFi. Their performance surpassing that of wide area mobile network is based on small cell size and their standing point will be lost due to use of small cells in the 5G mobile networks. This paper proposes an integrated WLAN with mobility support as a campus net integrating PBX and Ethernet into a cellular WLAN where cell size is further reduced into 10m radius scale, cells densely cover each campus, millimeter wave is used for radio, and PON (Passive Optical Network) is used as an cost-effective backhaul network. Synchronized operation among base stations under the clock of PON and short propagation delay in small cells allow quick handover and short delay in transfer of infrequent, small packets with low power as a manner of slotted ALOHA. The proposed integrated WLAN needs software-defined cell control to avoid inefficient handover and unexpected cease in packet transfers. Heavy overlap of cells in the dense small cells can cause handover to an undesirable target cell and isolated cell connection may lead to cease of packet transfer instead of intermission. The software-defined cell consists of a center cell at which the target terminal stays and neighbor cells of the center cell. In software-defined cells, handover resources and cell information are pre-notified to the target terminal before next handover.
