Optimal VNF Placement Based on Multiple Service Classes for Service Function Chaining

Abstract(in English) In service function chaining (SFC) where multiple virtual networkfunctions (VNF) can be utilized in an appropriate order, transmissiondelay of packets for each SFC depends on the combination and order ofVNFs that processes the packets. Therefore, in order to process thepackets in an allowable delay, VNFs have to be placed in each nodeappropriately. Moreover, it is important to place VNFs in each node withthe minimum amount of resources. Moreover, when each SFC requiresdifference quality of services, it has to place VNFs in each nodeaccording to the service class. In this paper, for SFC with multipleservice classes, we propose an optimal VNF placement based on multipleservice classes. In this method, an optimization problem is formulatedby considering an allowable delay for each service class. Then, asolution for the optimization problem is derived with a geneticalgorithm. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method with thederived solution and compare the performance of the proposed method withthat of the existing method. In numerical examples, we show that VNFscan be placed in each node based on service classes and the serverresources can be utilized effectively.
