Configuration of Quick Charging System having EDLC Charge Buffer for micro EV

Abstract(in English) Recently, electric double-layer capacitors (EDLC) have gotten a lot of attention as a rechargeable battery. This paper focuses on the application of EDLC for the micro electric vehicles (μEVs), because a micro EV has rather small power consumption. However, the capacity of EDLC is very small. Frequent re-charging and quick charging are required. To resolve the problem, this paper proposes two types of quick charging systems: 1) Use of the commercial power source with large capacity, 2) Combination of one or two EDLC charge buffers and low cost power source with limited capacity. These models of quick charging systems were evaluated by using queuing theory and software simulation. The evaluation shows that quick charging system having two EDLC buffers is the best solution. Even if the electric power source line has limited capacity, the proposed system has small waiting time.
