Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Heading towards the 2020 Olympics, many Japanese organizations as well as the government have been actively promoting to increase the number of foreign visitors to Japan. To draw such promotions to success, it is mandatory to increase visitors’ satisfactions as well, and this study particularly focuses on the eating (and drinking) sites of English speaking visitors, which plays a great role during their visit, from linguistic point of view. As Internet use became widespread, many personal information transmission sites have been available now. However, the Japanese verbal descriptions on food are quite unique, and it is very hard to grasp the nuance of them. In this study, we focus on the expressions of sizzle feeling towards food, such as ``MOCHI-MOCHI" and ``SAKU-SAKU," and has made the comparison between most frequently used 90 Japanese ``sizzle words" and their English translations in both paper and online dictionaries. As a result, most Japanese sizzle words can be looked up in dictionaries, but at the same time, they are not always corresponding one-to-one, and some even do not contain proper nuances. We are to explore further researches to provide means to hit the more proper descriptions for foreign visitors’ convenience.
