Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Independent Component Analysis (ICA) can derive the inherent set of bases which are correspond to local features of a given input image. Especially, the performance to keep the local features using ICA bases is superior to that of DCT in non-stationary region of image. We have been proposed ICA-DCT hybrid typed image coding. In this method, each signal of small region in the input image is transformed by ICA or DCT appropriately in the viewpoint of the reduction of the bit rate, after an input image is divided into small blocks. However, this method has a problem that computational cost for image segmentation is laborious, because image segmentation is achieved by comparing both entropy directly in each small block. This paper presents the reduction method for the computational cost of image segmentation by using another parameter L_0 norm instead of the entropy. As the result, it is possible to reduce about 98[%] of the computational cost of image segmentation compared with conventional method at the same coding performance.
