Estimation of Secondary Cell Performances by Analysis of Electrode Images

Abstract(in English) The performance of secondary cells used by electric cars depends on the performances of their electrodes. However, the relationship between the microstructure of electrodes and the battery performance is not yet clear. Therefore, we use electron micrograph of the sliced electrodes to estimate the performance of the electrodes by way of texture analysis. We propose a framework to estimate the cell performance using Local Binary Pattern feature, Support Vector Machine, and Support Vector Regression. As a result, 90% of the electrode images that were divided into multiple performance index classes were correctly classified. Also, the performance index could be estimated with RMSE within 2% when regression was applied.
