Direct Fabrication for Smooth End Facets on GI-core Polymer Waveguide Using the Mosquito Method

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we fabricate graded index (GI) circular core polymer optical waveguides using the Mosquito method, and demonstrate smooth end facets of waveguides without cutting and polishing processes in order to realize direct integration of the polymer waveguide devices on PCBs. We confirm that the insertion loss of the fabricated 5-cm long waveguide is as low as 0.79 dB at 850-nm wavelength.
