Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Wireless Sensor and Actuator Networks (WSAN) are required to achieve both energy-efficiency and low-latency in order to enhance the network lifetime while being able to quickly respond to intermittently transmitted control commands. These two requirements are in general in a relationship of trade-off when each node operates with well-known duty-cycling modes. In order to resolve this inherent trade-off, we have designed radio-on-demand sensor and actuator networks (ROD-SAN) where each node is equipped with a wake-up receiver operating with ultra low-power consumption. Each ROD-SAN node sends a communication request to the wake-up receiver of destination before sending data frame. If the wake-up receiver of destination correctly detects the request, it activates the main radio interface, followed by data exchange through the main radio. In this paper, by computer simulation, we evaluate energy-efficiency, packet delivery latency, and data collection rate of ROD-SAN and duty-cycling modes defined in IEEE 802.15.4e, and investigate the potential for ROD-SAN to simultaneously achieve energy-efficiency and low-latency. |
