Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The Internet of Things (IoT) – the network connecting tens of billions of various devices - has attracted worldwide attention, introducing new services and values by its data collection and analysis. The introduction barrier is located in the cost and maintenance of the installation and operation of devices and networks. To reduce the labor cost, (1) wireless transmissions, (2) miniaturization and flexibility, and (3) maintenance-free operations are important for the devices. Especially for the realization of (3), power-supply management becomes a major issue. Whether electrical-wiring work and regular battery-replacement tasks are inevitable, and how to install or replace the devices will affect the business cost of IoT services. As a means for solving the problems of the power supply, we proposed a low-power and small-size power-control circuit using an energy harvester [8], and applied it to a BLE beacon (a radio transmitter based on Bluetooth Low Energy) that has been attracting attention as one of IoT devices. Our prototype beacon is thin, small and flexible, and possible to operate without maintenance.
