Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We applied the method of event segmentation to analyze a session of occupational therapy to investigate the characteristics of interaction between a therapist and his/her child client with a developmental disorder. Four sessions were analyzed, including one conducted by a novice therapist and three conducted by expert therapists. Viewers of the videos recorded breakpoints when the therapist or the child expressed the new goal of an activity. The results indicated that the duration of unit, that is the interval of two adjacent breakpoints, had a wider variation for the expert therapists’ sessions than the novice therapist’s sessions. We discuss the relationship between the duration of unit and challenge for the child.
