Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Durations of switching pause at turn-takings in conversations vary conveyed impressions of utterances. The impressions may be influenced depending of intimacy between conversing participants. In this study, we examine the relationship between duration of switching pause and impressions of responses. Specifically, we perform the experiments in order to evaluate response impressions with two intimacy conditions, one is response ‘Hai’ used in low intimacy conversations, and the other is response ‘Un’ as the high intimacy condition. The experimental results showed that, the durations of switching pauses are sensitive to all the factors: ‘friendliness,’ ‘trust’ and ‘calmness.’ for low intimacy conversations. On the other hand, for high intimacy conversations the durations of switching pauses are insensitive to the factors: ‘friendliness,’ and ‘trust.’ The results suggest that human cognize conveyed impressions by switching pauses sensitively for low intimacy conversations, while in intimacy conversations variations of response time can be allowed among participants.
