Abstract(in English) | Irradiation of intense ultrasound into liquid causes the emission of pale light called “sonoluminescence”. This phenomenon has been studied since 1930’s. Alkali-metal atom emission can be observed from alkali-metal salt solution, such as NaCl or KCl, together with the white emission which is believed to be plasma bremsstrahlung. The mechanism of alkali-metal atom emission, especially the emission site, has been discussed for a long time. The recent studies by our group settled the dispute about the emission site. This review presents some results on spectral measurements of Na and K emission: the effect of alcohol-addition, and the dependences on dissolved rare gas and ultrasonic frequency. The spatiotemporal separation of two components of Na emission is also described. The results demonstrated that the emission site is in the gas phase inside bubble. Na ions enter bubble as droplets which are produced via bubble coalescence and fragmentation. High temperature and high pressure conditions at bubble collapse reduce the Na ions and produce van der Waals molecules of Na-rare gas which gives the line broadening. There exists Na emission without interacting rare gas, providing the line with narrow bandwidth. |
