Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes basic study aiming for realization of remote non-contact assessment of metallic pipes, which are difficult to be accessed by human, for example, in nuclear power plants, using a HTS-SQUID non-destructive evaluation (NDE) system. In the SQUID-NDE system, a HTS-SQUID gradiometer was cooled at around 65 to 70 K by a coaxial pulse-tube refrigerator. Zinc plating steel pipes of 2 mm in thickness, 50 mm in diameter, and 1.5 to 2 m in length were used as samples. Acoustic emission (AE) waves, occurred by hitting or generated by an AE transmitter, were used as guided waves to be detected by the HTS-SQUID gradiometer and AE receivers as reference sensor. As a result, AE waves at a velocity of about 1920 m/s were detected by the AE sensors, and synchronized magnetic wave as the AE waves was detected by the HTS-SQUID gradiometer. The experimental results show a possibility to realize remote non-contact assessments of metallic pipes using the high-sensitive HTS-SQUID magnetic sensor.
