Short reach fiber optic communication systems with CAP modulation scheme

Abstract(in English) Carrierless amplitude and phase modulation (CAP) is attractive for short reach fiber optic communication systems, as it employs quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) by using digital finite impulse response (FIR) filter with digital signal processing (DSP) to enable high speed transmission and low cost implementation with band-limited devices. In this modulation scheme, D/A converter (DAC) and A/D converter (ADC) performance and the number of FIR filter tap affect transmission performance and circuit size. In this paper, we reveal the acceptable DAC/ADC resolution and sampling rate, and the number of filter taps. In addition, we show the effects of nonlinearity compensation for LN intensity modulator and amplitude clipping to reduce Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR).
