Temperature Estimation of Focused Ultrasound Heating System Using FDTD Method

Abstract(in English) In the clinic, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is used to non-invasive treatment for cancers. However, it is not easy to rapidly monitor temperature distributions which reach over 60℃. On the other hand, a hyperthermia treatment is based on the clinical fact that cancer cells are more weaker than healthy cells in the temperature range of 42-43℃. In this study, we proposed a new type of transducer to expand the heated area for hyperthermia treatments with focused ultrasound. First, we presented a new type of transducer model for computer simulations. Next, we calculated temperature distributions using a Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method with the proposed transducer model. From these results, it was found that the proposed transducer was useful for hyperthermia treatments.
