Evaluation of the higher-order optical sidebands extracted by means of projecting polarization of synthesized lightwaves with different modulation indices

Abstract(in English) We propose generation of optical two-tone signal by polarization manipulation. Polarization of ± 1st-order optical sidebands is rotated by superposing orthogonally-polarized lightwave with different modulation index, which is suppressed using a po-larizer. ± 3rd-order optical sidebands are obtained as a pair of optical two-tone signal. The RF signal obtained from opti-cal/electrical conversion is sextupled in frequency. Since this method do not require an optical filter, carrier wavelength would not be restricted. More than 30-dB suppression of ± 1st-order optical sidebands has been experimentally achieved, and maintained over at least 6 hours. And more than 25-dB suppression of that is also obtained in 20-nm wavelength range in C-band.
