Improvement Method for TDOA Localization by Applying Smoothed Height Information

Abstract(in English) TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) localization estimates a target position from arrival time differences of radio signals detected by a number of ground receiver stations. It is desired for aeronautical surveillance system to provide high performance localization compared with conventional radar. WAM (Wide Area Multilateration) using TDOA localization is able to achieve the high performance and has been introduced. In WAM, it is possible to improve horizontal position accuracy by applying height information to the localization. However, it is supposed to increase horizontal position errors by applying height information, if the height information includes a bias error. This paper describes a TDOA localization method estimating a bias error of height information simultaneously and proposes an improvement way applying its smoothed height information. Simulation results indicated that the proposed way could improve 20% for horizontal position accuracy.
