Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In recent years, indices for estimating influence of social media users have been actively studied. Most studies utilize the structure of a social network that represents relationships among users for estimating their influence. However, several errors are typically contained in a social network due to missing data, false data, and node/link sampling from the social network. In this paper, we investigate the effects of node sampling from a social network on the effectiveness of the indices obtained from the sampled network for estimating influence of social media users. We examine the effectiveness of indices estimating influence of social media users through comparison between the estimated influence of users, which is obtained from the indices calculated from a sampled social network, and the actual influence of the users. Our experimental results show that (1) the use of random sampling to obtain the structure of social network significantly affects the effectiveness of indices for estimating the influence of users, which may make the indices quite useless, and (2) using biased sampling methods, such as Sample Edge Count (SEC), is an effective approach for estimating influence of users rather than using a random sampling.
