Indoor Field Experiment based on IEEE 802.11af System in Singapore TV White-space

Abstract(in English) Mobile data traffic is continuously increasing at a pace of about 1.7 times per year and estimated to reach a thousand times over the next 15 years. In the discussions for the new 5G (5th generation) communication system, studies how to expand the frequency band for mobile communication systems have been proactively promoted and it is required to exhaustively utilize any frequency band including millimeter-wave and ISM bands. White-spaces are also target frequency bands, and especially white-spaces in the TV band (TVWS) have been expected to accommodate a lot of mobile data traffic due to its wide allocated frequency band. The TVWS is also expected for long-range communication systems since the TV band has superior propagation characteristics. For this reason, activities on regulations and trials for utilizing the TVWS have been promoted worldwide. In Singapore, operational rules in the TVWS were also established in 2014 and field trials have been started. In this study, the authors have developed IEEE 802.11af-compliant communication system in conformity to the Singapore regulation and report experiment results of the indoor field experiment in Singapore.
